    Default Hosting options for video

Just curious if any of you know of good ways to handle the bandwidth costs associated with hosting high traffic video sites.

For a future project I plan a dedicated server, but was hoping there might be a cheap way to avoid bandwidth costs.

You can link your videos to other websites like many do. Users just upload a link on their website and when a viewer clicks it, he gets redirected to You Tube. This is called as Video Embedding. This technique saves a lot of bandwidth.

This can be good idea to upload the video files to some free video files sharing websites which would produce a HTML code, which can be used to show the video's logical presence on you webpage without consuming Diskspace and bandwidth.

IMO video websites should be run with full professionalism and webmaster should not hesitate to pour some money at web hosting resources if he really want to make some serious business with his website.

Well in this case such websites would attache their own watermark to the videos uploaded by such free users, and this would now allow you to claim any rights over those videos. I strongly agree with the suggestion provided by Lester and you should be ready to invest a good amount over web hosting resources if you are planning to own a video website.

If one is so concern about the diskspace and bandwidth then he can use .flv format for the videos uploaded on the website, it is the lightest video format and do not consume too much resources.

You can consider a dedicated server with basic configuration to begin with and later on as the traffic on you website increases you can consider a high-end dedicated server.
