    Default Email Client / Webmail.

    Hello all,

Just wondering what everyone here prefers to use to access their emails? Is it one of the webmail or an email client on your local machine? Also do share if there is any reason to choose that.

Outlook for me. I find it easy to manage the emails from there. If I prefer to use webmail, then it is horde.

I deal with Outlook when I am on my main machine and webmail when I am away from the office, unless of course I am on my laptop and I just RD into my main machine.

It's embarrassing but I don't know how to use email client service like Outlook Express. So there is no choice for me other than using webmail service. Normally I use either Horde or Squirrel Mail.

Webmail interfaces allow users to access their mail with any standard web
browser, from any computer, rather than relying on an e-mail client.

Some people prefer webmail as it can be accessed from any where at anytime.

What is the main difference then between a webmail and an email from local machine? Can everyone get an email that is not from a webmail? I've used Outlook when I was in college but it was brief. There seems to be no difference between a webmail and an email on Outlook.

I think the idea of using an email client is that you can download your emails to your local computer so that you can open the emails anytime without being online.

Webmail is web based interface whereas Outlook is an email client installed on your local machine. Your hosting company will provide you with webmail access. You can configure your email accounts in an email client and access mails directly from your machine. Hope that helps understand.

True (good notes for web based mail) but if I am not at my computer, I am remoted in or I am checking email on my cell (which many people do these days). I just do not see the need for web based unless its an ER.
