    Default Software Firewall?

    Hi all,

I an using a desktop PC with broadband connection, Is it necessary for me to install a software firewall on my PC, so that I can perform some online transactions from it. If yes, then which is the best software firewall for a home based PC.

A firewall is always good for any kind of PC, as far as it is not affecting the speed of your computer.

If you are planning to extend the number of computers to form any kind of network then going for a Hardware firewall is fair, because it can cover the whole network.

I agree with Vikram, Hardware firewalls are specially designed keeping in mind commercial use by large scale industries.

As you stated you are using a single desktop PC so these days almost all the reputed Antivirus software comes with firewall options hence you just need to buy a legal copy of any of them and install it on your PC. You don't need to install any software or hardware firewall separately.

Can you suggest any such specific antivirus which comes in with in-built firewall?

With McAfee Total Protection pack you can get more than both antivirus and firewall options.

I would choose McAfee over Avira, though it may seems a little bit expensive but security is very important factor and no-one should compromise with it.
