lowest numbered MX record points to local host
The exim fails to send the emails giving folloing error log (in cPanel server /var/log/exim_mainlog)
lowest numbered MX record points to local host: sendingdomain.com (while verifying <mail@sendingdomain.com> from host receiving.mailserver.com [xx.xx.xx.xx])
H=receiving.mailserver.com [xx.xx.xx.xx] F=<receivingdomain.com> temporarily rejected RCPT <mail@sendingdomain.com>: lowest numbered MX record points to local host
To resolve this problem you need to check following points for the sending domain (usually on the same server on which it is hosted).
1) If MX record is correct, that is the lowest number and highest priority '0', and it points to the local server on which the domain is hosted, then please verify that the entry for the sendingdomain.com is in
/etc/localdomains and
it should not be in and must be removed if it is from
/etc/remotedomains
2) If sendingdomains.com has entry in /etc/remotedomains and actually configured to use the email server remotely placed from the server on which it is being hosted and the MX record currently points then
Please change the MX record to point to correct remote mail server .
After this emails should successfully be sent out from correctly configured email server for sendingdomain.com .
